Political Advertising:
ASA worked the 1990 historic campaigns of Joan Finney. Finney holds the distinction of being the first woman governor and
oldest elected Governor of Kansas. The Democratic primary campaign was waged against a former popular two term Democratic Governor,
John Carlin, who outspent Finney 6 to 1. The General campaign ousted the incumbent Republican Governor, Mike Hayden who outspent
Finney 4 to 1. Jim Deines, CEO of ASA Marketing Group, worked full time directly with Joan and the Finney Campaign for 11 months
which included the miraculous double upset wins.
ASA Marketing Group has a win percentage of over 70% for all political candidates and ballot issues. The political candidates include mostly Democrats but some Republicans. ASA worked another statewide race in 2002 when Democrat Chris Biggs took on Phill Kline. ASA Marketing Group worked with Chris Biggs Campaign for less than 12 weeks ending with a disappointing loss amounting to less than one-half percent.
ASA has worked two campaigns for Kansas Second Congressional District. The first was a failed bid in the Republican Primary with Joe Hume up against Sam Brownback. Brownback outspent Joe 20 to 1. The second Congressional race worked by ASA was Democrat Nancy Boyda’s surprise win in 2006 when she beat 5-term incumbent Republican Congressman, Jim Ryun. The Boyda campaign spent half the money that Ryun spent.
ASA has worked the successful campaigns of Topeka City Councilmen Jim Reardon and Sam Carkhuff, as well as Shawnee County Commissioners Don Cooper and Ted Ensley. ASA was hired in 2004 to work Democrat candidates exclusively for Kansas Senate races and have worked, including 2008, on 7 State Senate Campaigns and assisted with strategy, media and messaging with a dozen others.
In 2008, ASA worked the successful primary and general campaigns of Democrat newcomer Chad Taylor for Shawnee County District Attorney and the historic campaign of Carolyn Campbell, first African American elected to the Kansas State Board of Education.
Ballot Issues / Bond Elections:
ASA Marketing group has won every ballot issue campaigned including; Open Saloon, Retain Judge Theis, Topeka City Manager and
consulted on message for the Half Cent Sales Tax for Go Topeka.
ASA Marketing Group campaigned one of the first Local Option Budgets to pass in Kansas for Topeka Public Schools. ASA followed over the years with 4 successful bond election campaigns for Topeka USD 501 including the TPS Sports Park bond election.
ASA was hired after 2 unsuccessful attempts by Shawnee Heights School District to pass a school bond. The bond was divided into three parts and ASA successfully campaigned two out of three. The one ballot issue that did not pass, based on research, ASA recommended name change from "Performing Arts Center" to "Multipurpose Arts and Learning Center". Printed materials were previously sent to patrons with "Performing Arts" wording so a name change was declined. This is the only ballot issue loss by ASA.
Research:
ASA has completed research for local, regional and national accounts over the years under the banner of Infomark Research,
now a division of ASA Marketing Group. Over 200 research projects have been conducted under the direction of Jim Deines.
Marketing research, lead generation research, feasibility studies, focus groups and mystery shopping has served the ASA retail
base of accounts and outside retail clients. Opinion polls for political candidates, bond and ballot elections along with a
proprietary process of "Donut Shop Research" has helped ASA provide success for political candidates and ballot issue clients.
Infomark Research provides ASA Marketing Group a strategic advantage with access to a variety of research to determine public opinion and trends on behalf of our clients. ASA also uses research to provide lead generation, measure public acceptance, and develop communications for fundraising campaigns.
